Living on Geoje Island
TRAVEL
Down the street from my parents house, Clanwilliam, South Africa. August, 2011
From growing up in a very isolated small town, I was blessed from young (from a travelling point of view) in that we had to leave to fulfil even the most basic of needs. Things such a clothing, certain grocery items and other necessities were very scarce and thus we would have to travel quite a distance to the nearest 'bigger' town. However if you really wanted to get an all round experience usual excursions would be either cross boarder to Cape Town (a good 7 hour journey) or up north to Windhoek (About an 8 hour journey). As most of my extended family lives in Cape Town we made regular trips here and naturally (As our town had no high school at the time) Cape Town later became my choice of boarding high school education.
My parents had always been avid adventurers, specifically camping and discovery the off beaten track as it were and I believe my passion for travel began from theirs. After high school as I had no clue what to do with my life I decided to have a gap year in the UK. Honestly I don't think I quite gauged the magnitude of the decision but as it turns out it was a great experience. After the UK as I said in my bio I switched between Namibia and South Africa. My plan in 2012 was to try settle down in South Africa but by 2016 after many mid morning tea and coffee/ late night wine drunk sessions with my bestie we (Or rather she- it was her idea) decided to teach English in Korea. At the same time it just so happened that I met someone who taught at English camps in Italy for the summer months (hands down one of the best experiences of my life- #whocansaynotoitaly) so we combined this all in one delicious adventure.
In Korea I seem to have allot more down time and it has given me the freedom to peruse other passions and really get to know myself. One of these passions has turned out to be writing my experiences down- and despite currently being an 'English teacher (2017) i'm sure it may not always be in the best form but my objective it to pass on helpful information as well as document a bit about my life for me and who ever is interested. On a side note- I learnt a lot from travel blogs and from hearing about other adventurers experiences.
I love travelling; the different cultures, food, customs and people really have taught me so much about life, love and appreciation and has grown me in ways I never imagined. One of the best parts it meeting like minded people who are on a similar journey with their own stories to tell. Don't get me wrong it's not as glits and glamour like all the Facebook posts would have you believe, sometimes theirs major cock ups (Like getting all the way to the other side of the world only to have your visa rejected and sent back home- I was only 16 and terrified to be travelling on my own). As any ones life choices go; you have to sacrifice somethings in order to have other things and for now this is the path I have chosen. So here's to many more experiences and hopefully to me getting most of them down so I can hopefully inspire or pass on valuable information to any seeking it.
